Fereidoun (Feri) Farassat

Fereidoun Farassat was a NASA Senior Research Scientist in the field of theoretical aeroacoustics at NASA Langley Center of Excellence.

Born in Ramhormoz, Iran, on October 20, 1944, he immigrated to the United States in 1970. He earned a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University in 1973, and upon graduation, he began work as an Adjunct Professor for George Washington University, a post he held for 25 years. In 1981, Dr. Farassat became a naturalized citizen. He continued to teach classes in acoustics and applied mathematics throughout his life. He joined NASA in 1979, where he published over 130 technical papers and won numerous awards from NASA and other institutions. His highest passion was expanding the field of aeroacoustics.

At the AHS 67th Annual Forum Grand Awards Banquet on May 4, 2011, in Virginia Beach, AHS Chairman Phil Dunford presented Dr. Farassat with the AHS Technical Fellow Award in recognition of his many accomplishments. He passed away on July 9, 2011.
