Edith Jupp Polleys

United States of America

Edith Jupp Polleys worked in the rotary-wing aerodynamics and aeroelasticity.

A graduate of New York University in aeronautical engineering and mathematics, she was employed as a dynamicist at Kaman Aerospace Corp. from 1951 through 1959. Specializing in rotor blade loads and dynamic response analyses, she was among the first to apply automatic computation to these problems. She worked on helicopters including the HTK-1, HOK-1, K-17 pressure jet, and the H-2 preliminary design and proposal.

Prior to working for Kaman she was employed as a dynamicist for the Chance Vought Corp. on the F4U, F5U, F6U and the F7U. Most of her early work was on the concepts and mathematics of the flutter phenomenon, and she brought many of those principles into the rotary-wing field in early 1951. She was an early member of AHS and had been a fixed-wing private pilot.

Edith Jupp Polleys died suddenly at her home in Windsor, Connecticut, on September 23, 1973.
