Kip Edenborough

Kip Edenborough was born in Denver, Colorado, on Jan. 29, 1938, but grew up in Amarillo, Texas. Following graduation, he attended Princeton University, earning undergraduate and master’s degrees in aeronautical engineering. After leaving Princeton in 1960, he worked for Bell Helicopter, securing several patents as he narrowed his field of interest to tilt rotors.

In 1972, the family moved to Berkeley, California, when Edenborough joined NASA Ames Research Center as chief engineer of the XV-15 Tilt Rotor and assistant chief for the Helicopter Research Division. Later, he served as assistant chief of the rotorcraft division of the 120 ft x 80 ft wind tunnel. Kip retired from NASA in 1996, and in 1998, he moved to Napa, California.

He joined AHS in 1960, was a Gold Circle and lifetime member of AHS, and author of several AHS papers.

Harry Kipling (Kip) Edenborough passed away on December 7, 2013.
