First scheduled helicopter passenger service in the USA commences
Wednesday, July 8, 1953 - The location encompassed routes linking the airports of LaGuardia, Newark and Idlewild, United States of America
Description
A significant step for helicopter acceptability, which helped to confirm the reliability, safety and commercial viability of helicopters in the public eye. Routes were operated by New York Airways, between the airports of LaGuardia, Newark and Idlewild. Note: The source for this milestone states that this was "the first scheduled helicopter passenger helicopter service in the world" but this is believed to be incorrect - as scheduled services had commenced earlier in the UK.
