First flight of the Florine No. 2 tandem helicopter
Wednesday, April 12, 1933
Description
The aircraft was the second iteration of a tandem concept developed by Florine (the first, the Type I, encountered drive system issues necessitating a re-design). The aircraft included a number of novel features including lateral canting of the rotor hubs to provide anti-torque control as both rotors rotated in the same direction. This aircraft went on to set a flight endurance record for helicopters. Source: "Nicolas Florine Tandem-Rotor Helicopter", Ken Bartie, VFS 2019 VTOL History Calendar
